Adhayan Chakra , Department of Assamese , Mangaldai College organized a one day workshop on story writing . Mr. Dimbeswar Baruah , HoD Assamese, welcomed the honourable guests, Resource Person, teachers & the participants students. Dr. Kamala Kanta Bora, Principal of Mangaldai College, delivered his inaugural speech of the programme. Renown Assamese litterateur Jayanta Madhab Borah participated as honourable Resource Person and delivered his valuable lecture on the topic highlighting the various aspects of story writing. As many as 190 participants( Students & Teachers) took part in the programme. The programme was a successful one.

Solid Plastic and E Waste Disposal

Different types of waste materials such as solid and plastic waste and e waste produced in the Mangaldai College campus are collected and disposed by the Mangaldai Municipality Board once in a week as per the scheduled activity under the MoU between the two institutions. Besides, Mangaldai Municipality Board assist the college to keep the college premises clean and hygiene.

QUIZ AND SEMINAR ON INDIAS PRESIDENCY IN G-20

The Mangaldai College fraternity in collaboration with the Akashvani Guwahati branch has organized a seminar and quiz competiton on India�s Presidency in G-20. The program was organized in greater interest of the students. Three Resource Persons were invited for delivering their talk and interact with the students. Prof. Mrinal Kanti Dutta of Department of Humanities and Social Science, IIT Guwahati, Dr. Abhinandan Saikia of Centre for Ecology, Environment and Sustainable Development, TISS and Dr. Kamala Kanta Borah, Principal, Mangaldai College were the esteemed resource persons of the programe. The Quiz competition was conducted by Mr. Nayan Jyoti Borah, as Quiz Master. The students were highly benefitted from the lectures of the resource persons. Drupad Medhi and Jyotismita Pathak of Department of Geography were announced as winners of the Quiz Competition

North East Graduate Congress 2023

A total of 35 students of Mangaldai College participated in the 7th North-East Graduate Congress-2023, held on 7th, 8th and 9th April, 2023, organized by University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya. Workshop on Preparation, Illustration and Conservation of Medieval Assamese Manuscripts ON 27-06-2023 At Science Gallery, Mangaldai College Total Participants=105 Resource Persons: Dr. DhrubaJyoti Hati Baruah, ACS, Director, ic, Department of Historical and Antiquarian Studies, Assam (DHAS) & Mridu Moucham Borah, Expert in manuscript preparation. The Program was started at 10.00 a.m. with lightening the inaugural lamp and the inaugural and welcome speech by Dr. Kamala Kanta Borah, the Principal, Mangaldai College, Mangaldai. The workshop was divided into two sessions for two themes viz. (i) the preparation and Illustration of the manuscripts and (ii) the Conservation of the manuscripts. The Workshop was conducted by Dr. Angiras, HoD, History. Resource Person Dr. Dhrubajyoti Hati Baruah, talked on the conservation of the manuscripts in addition to the role played by the DHAS in historical research in Assam in pre-independence and post independence period. Another Resource Person, Mridu Moucham Borah demonstrated lot of photographs to describe the method of preparing folios from Sanchi wood, traditional ink and other writing materials. The workshop was attended and participated by some faculty members from other Departments of the college and students of the Department of History and other Departments. The students participated with active involvement and interaction with resource parsons. A MoU was signed between the DHAS and Mangaldai College for furtherance of intellectual exchange in the concerned areas later on in between the two institutions. Dr. Dhrubajyoti Hati Baruah and Mr. Mridu Moucham Borah had expressed their happiness to find the participants with great enthusiasm and consented to organize such program on more wider and intense learning in the subject later on. Thus the program ended successfully.

Career Counselling Programme

Mangaldai College Career Counselling and Placement Cell have organized a Career Counselling Programme on 7th June 2023 at Science Gallery of the college. Dr. Kamala Kanta Borah inaugurated the programme and encouraged the young minds to consider entrepreneurship and startups as a prospect in their future. Renowned Industrialist Mr. Anupam Deka, Director, SRD Group of Industries was the resource person of the event. In his speech, Mr. Deka motivated the students to be self-reliant and urged them to develop a creative and innovative thinking. He also provided counselling to the students to develop a positive attitude and build self-confidence. Around 200 students from B.A, B.Sc and B.Voc have actively participated in the session and interacted enthusiastically with the resource person. Dr. Barnali Deka, Coordinator, Career Counselling and Placement Cell offered the Vote of Thanks to all the participants.

Demonstration on College Website

The Department of Computer Science & IT at Mangaldai College has recently rebuilt the college website, incorporating new features and a user-friendly interface. To ensure effective usage and management of the website, the department is conducting a demonstration for all college teachers. The purpose of this demonstration is to guide the teachers on how to handle the website and upload relevant data onto their respective departmental profiles.

During the demonstration, the teachers will be provided with step-by-step instructions on navigating the website, accessing their departmental profiles, and updating information. They will learn how to upload documents, such as syllabi, course materials, research papers etc. The demonstration will cover various aspects of website management, including creating and editing content, organizing files, and maintaining the overall integrity of the website.

Awareness Talk on “Sensitisation for Sustainable Development”

An MOU was signed between Mangaldai College and the United Nations Resource Centre - NE Region (UNRC-NER) and SDG Program on 22nd May 2023 at the Science Gallery of Mangaldai College from 1 pm onwards. Dr. Aswini Sarma, Executive Director, UNRC-NER and Ms Nina Jain were the eminent dignitaries at the event. The MOU is for providing scope for the upliftment of the college in every sector, including education, science, culture, and environment. Dr. Sarma highlighted the purpose of the MOU and also mentioned the provision of being recognized as a Centre of Excellence to get various facilities provided by UNESCO. On this occasion a talk on “Sensitisation for Sustainable Development” was also delivered by Dr. Aswini Sarma and Ms Nina Jain. Dr. Sarma explained about the operations and activities of UNRC-NER and its role in participation in UN or UNESCO conferences at the State, National, and International levels along with the visits of UN or UNESCO officials to the College. Ms. Jain mentioned about the conduction of various healthy competitions among students on different significant themes relating to the environment. She interacted urged the students to come forward and participate in various competitions. The faculties of Mangaldai College attended the event.

Reduce , Reuse and Recycle Centre at Mangaldai college

“Meri LIFE, Mera Swachh Shehar” a national campaign by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs ( MoHUA) was launched from 15th May to 5th June 2023. Under this programme an instruction was given to the Chairperson of all urban bodies for setting up a Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Centre in every ward of urban cities. Accordingly a Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Centre was set up in Mangaldai College Campus by Mangaldai Municipality Board , Mangaldai , Darrang , Assam. The main aim of the centre was to educate the community about the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling and to provide resources for proper waste disposal and recycling. It also offers facilities for reusing and refurbishing. The centre plays a vital role in promoting a sustainable and eco-friendly lifestyle. The Mangaldai College has successfully run the RRR Centre from 15th May to 5th June 2023. The National Service Scheme Unit and National Cadet Crops (Girls) Unit of Mangaldai College were involved actively in running the centre. The timing of the centre was 9 AM to 2.30 PM in all the working days. All the stakeholders of Mangaldai college and people from nearby areas had contributed lots towards the RRR Centre. There were very good responses from the college fraternity as well as people from the surrounding areas. All total there were 13 (Thirteen) faculty members and 2 (Two) students who have deposited various items to the RRR Centre. The faculty members have deposited 250 cloths, 14 Books, 09 shoes and 01 bag. Students have deposited 08 cloths and 18 books. The centre also offers facilities for reusing. Students, employees of the college and people from surrounding areas have availed the facilities of reusing in large extent .There were 13 persons who have taken cloths, books and other items from the centre for reuse. The centre was closed on 5th June 2023. All the collected items were handed over to the Chairperson of Mangaldai Municipality Board ,Mangaldai , Darrang on 07-06-20

Orientation Programme for Faculty and Students on Library Use

An orientation programme on library application using Mangaldai College website has been organized for the faculty members and students by IQAC, Mangaldai College on 11th May, 2023 at Science Gallery. Mrs. Khanjana Deka, Librarian of the college has extensively elaborated the procedures of individual log in and e-resource access using the Mangaldai College website. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Santosh Borkalati, IQAC Coordinator, Mangaldai College. He emphasised on the regular visit of the college library both physically and virtually by the faculty members and students. Mr. Trinayan Sarma, Library Assistant was also present in the event. Academic Exchange Programme

On 6th May, 2023, four faculties along with 18 students of B.Sc. 4th semester (Botany Honours) of Mangaldai College, visited the Department of Botany, USTM as per MoU. The accompanied faculties were Dr. Sahabuddin Ahmed, Dr. Rajreepa Talukdar, Dr. Kuntala Sarma Bordoloi and Manash Pratim Baruah. The students of Mangaldai College and USTM interacted with each other and participating faculties of USTM were Dr. Nibedita Das, Dr. Bedabati Choudhury, Dr. Milu Rani Das and Dr. Moutushi Das. The students of Mangaldai College were made familiar with the instruments and laboratories of the Department of Botany, Mangaldai College. Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

ASTEC sponsored one day workshop on Issues and challenges in Intellectual Property (IP) and Importance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) for Sustainable Development Goals has been organized by IQAC, IIC and R&D Cell of Mangaldai College on 28th April, 2023. The event started with the lighting of lamp and welcome address was given by Dr. Kamala Kanta Borah, Principal, Mangaldai College. In his welcome speech, he gave an insight into the basic idea of IPR emphasizing on the Innovation and invention as the prime concern of today’s world to meet the SDG Goal. Dr. Jaideep Baruah, Director, ASTEC, Prof. Pritam Dev, DPIIT, Chair Professor, Tezpur University and Mr. Debasish Dutta, Scientist, PIC, ASTEC has graced the occasion as Resource Persons.

ALUMNI MEET

The Department of Physics, Mangaldai College held an alumni meet on 27-04-2023 in the ICT room of Physics Department, Mangaldai College. Many outgoing students participated in the event both in online and offline mode. They shared their experiences with the current students and inspired them a lot. The students also interacted actively and shared their doubts and concerns.

National Seminar on Revised Accreditation Framework of NAAC: Understanding the Parameters of Quality Assessment

A two-day NAAC sponsored National Seminar on Revised Accreditation Framework of NAAC: Understanding the Parameters of Quality Assessment was held at Mangaldai College on 25th and 26th April, 2023. The seminar started with the lightening of lamp followed by the College Anthem. Dr. Kamala Kanta Borah, Principal, Mangaldai College & Chairperson of the National Seminar delivered the inaugural speech and highlighted the significance of NAAC assessment to improve the quality of higher education. Prof. Utpal Sarma, Head, Department of Instrumentation and USIC, Gauhati University illustrated about the documentation of teaching-learning processes. Dr. Priya Narayanan, Assistant Advisor, NAAC, Bangalore described in detail about the NAAC assessment process through virtual mode. Dr. Lakhi Prasad Hazarika, Principal, PDUAM, Dalgaonand Dr.MousumiSaha Kalita, Principal, Kharupetia College also graced the occasion with their presence. In the final session, Dr. Bhuban Ch. Chutia, Coordinator of IQAC, Nowgong College (Autonomous) suggested various measures to uplift and create distinctiveness in every sphere of the college.

Industrial visit to SRD Group of Industries, Mangaldai

On 08/04/2023(Saturday), an industrial visit to SRD Group of Industries, Mangaldai was done from Department of Botany, Mangaldai College, Mangaldai with 2 faculties and 13 students of B.Sc 6th semester (Honours). Faculty members were Dr. Rajreepa Talukdar and Rahul Malakar of the department. This visit was made according to the paper BOT-HE-6016(Industrial and Environmental Microbiology) of Botany (Honours) syllabus, Gauhati University. The main purpose of this visit was to introduce industrial fermenter and other downstream processing operations. Dr. Khomdram Nripen Singh, General Manager, Trinity Fructa Pvt. Ltd (Under SRD Group of Industries) gave a lecture on the production and processing of food products in their industries. After that students visited different food production units in the campus of the industrial area.

STUDENT CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP

Mangaldai College has taken an initiative towards the betterment of the student by organising a Student Capacity Development Workshop. This programme is the first one in the series of the programmes that are to be conducted in near future. For the purpose of Capacity Building a very relevant topic of “Artificial Intelligence for future workforce” is considered. In this initiative the Intel Digital Readiness group has given their significant contribution. The students had to register themselves in the Google form link provided in the brochure prior to the programme. The programme was conducted on 30th March, 2023 at Science Gallery of Mangaldai College. The Principal of Mangaldai College, Dr Kamala Kanta Borah started the programme with a welcome address. The workshop was 7 hours long with some theoretical knowledge and hands- on training facilitated by the Industry Expert Team (Mukut Sarma, Kaushik Kashyap Borah, Arihant Chindaliya, Karanbir) of Intel Digital Readiness group. A total of 270 students from science stream of Mangaldai College attended and benefitted from the programme. The session was very interactive and brainstorming for the participants. Each participant was provided certificates. The feedback given by the students were encouraging for the organisers.

Ten Days Bihu Workshop

• Organiser : Performing Arts and Cultural Study Center, Mangaldai College

A Bihu workshop was organized by Performing arts and cultural study center, Mangaldai college from March,14 to March, 23,2023. The trainees performed Bihu at the closing ceremony. The workshop was held over ten days and attended by more than 150 trainees. The workshop was trained by Raju Bezbaruah (Bihua), Rintu Deka (Dhulia) and Bhabita Deka ( Bihuwati). The principal of Mangaldai College Dr. Kamalakanta Borah, The coordinator of IQAC Dr. Santosh Barkakati, The workshop coordinator Mr. Chitra Ranjan Nath delivered a speech at the closing ceremony. There They formed a Bihu team of the college on the same day.

Biodiversity Survey and Tree Census

The Biodiversity Survey & Tree Census in Mangaldai College Campus started on 16-03-2023 under the initiative of IQAC, Mangaldai College. Inaugurating the event, Principal Dr Kamala Kanta Borah elaborated the biodiversity richness of the college campus and the importance of preparing a scientific record. Dr Santosh Borkakati, Coordinator, IQAC, mentioned that a Biodiversity Register Committee is formed with the faculty members from the Departments of Geography, Botany and Zoology with the mandate to prepare a scientific database of the biodiversity of the campus and maintain the database updated with time. Explaining the methodology to be followed in the survey, Dr Pranjit Kr Sarma, Convener of the Biodiversity Register Committee, showed that the 33 acres campus of the college is divided into 62 virtual Grids and demonstrated to the faculties and participating students how the data from each Grid will be mapped into the database.

On 09/06/2022, an industrial visit to SRD Group of Microbiology Laboratory, Mangaldai was conducted by the Department of Botany, Mangaldai College, Mangaldai with 2 faculties and 23 students of B.Sc 6th semester (Honours). Faculty members were Dr. Prativa Deka and Dr. Debashree Kakati of the department. This visit was made according to the paper BOT-HE-6016 (Industrial and Environmental Microbiology) of Botany (Honours) syllabus, Gauhati University. The main purpose of this visit was to introduce the students with the basic microbiological techniques, microbial production units and other downstream processing operations.
